The university is privileged to be a core part of the NYFW. Since 2005, it has taken part in the event twice each year. The Council for Interior Design Accreditation accredits the fashion programs under the fine arts faculty.

Automobile Museum

A little-known fact is that the university is home to over two hundred of the world’s most precious classic cars. The Automobile Museum is a marvel packed with value at more than $70 million.

The museum is a reference point in automotive history. In addition, it is functionally used by the industrial design department.

The museum frequently participates in international car shows. It is open to the public by schedule. The car museum donates proceeds from the gate collections to charities such as the Rotary Club.

During the NYFW event

Months of sweat and pain ultimately come down to fifteen minutes on the big stage. For the insanely gifted and inspired graduates of the Academy of Arts, that is more than enough to make their mark. The designers are even more diverse than the collections they created.

They come from various backgrounds across the world. Take Hailun Zhou for example. She is from China. Her collections reflected her observations on a day trip. She demonstrated a creative fuse of different components and textiles to deliver stunning outerwear and dresses among other items.

She is a CFDA protégé. Dina Marie drew strong inspiration from a powerful place – the death of a close one. The allusion of transition was conspicuous in her presentation.

The Los Angeles native’s efforts have attracted the attention of renowned industry experts such as BCBGMAXAZRIA and the CFDA among others. Carlos Rodriguez, a BFA graduate, combined classic and contemporary touches to create modern, warm and comfortable embroidered pieces.

You can also get enchanted by the concept of light chasing away the darkness. Ryan Yu from China leveraged the bold contrast depicted in ultramodern silhouettes and amazing construction.
