Felipe Montoro Jens’ Report on Government Concessions on Public Sanitation

The Brazilian government’s decision to make concessions aimed at reducing water wastage and making general sanitation better received mixed reactions from shareholders. Trata Brasil’s president Edison Carlos believes that it will improve service delivery by making management of the concerned institutions better. Trata Brasil is an organization dealing with general sanitation.

 

According to Mr. Edison, the state and the private sector can work much better by complementing each bothers hence producing better results in sanitation. In an interview by Felipe Montoro Jens, Edison said that the government is better placed to serve the state. The government is to partner with National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). Edison highlighted that the bank would give services according to the needs of a particular place.

 

The Trata Brasil’s president also pointed out the ability of private sector in conserving water; he said that their advanced technology is aimed at water conservation. Mr. Edison raised a concern about the effectiveness of the private and public companies that offer services to the citizens. His primary concern was on the stability of the companies’ administration. Edison also made an observation and concluded that the government agencies needs to be careful on where and how to offer the services.

 

Felipe Montoro Jens is an infrastructure specialist. He started building his career at Getulio Vargas Foundation where he received an undergraduate degree and then proceeded to Thunderbird School of Global Management for masters in international management.
