Jennifer Walden: Plastic Surgeon Changing The Industry

Posted on September 21, 2018

Jennifer Walden has been practicing as a plastic surgeon for nearly eight years. Her education is impressive as the salutatorian of her class since graduating from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. After that successful completion of her initial education, she continued with a fellowship at the Manhattan eye, ear and throat hospital. From there, she built her practice in New York city and stayed there for various years. It was in 2011, she decided to return to her hometown. She is known by many, not for only her surgical abilities, but also a co-author of the book called Athletics Plastic Surgery.

Throughout her career, she has been extremely focused on performing cosmetic surgery, eyelids, facelifts and rhinoplasty, which is better known to many, as nose jobs. Cost for such augmentation services can run about $7,000 versus a facelift that may set you back $10,000. If you’re looking for a nose job, you’d payout between $8,000 and $9,000. She is also highly skilled when it comes to liposuction. This concludes inner thighs, abdomen and arms. Walden also takes care of smaller invasive procedures that includes soft tissue fillers and injecting Botox as well.

She states that she knows she is a rarity. For one, there aren’t too many female doctors that practice cosmetic plastic surgery. There are approximately 8,100 board certified plastic surgeons throughout the country. Surprisingly, only 851 are women. In addition to that, nearly 180 belong to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Jennifer Walden is 1 of a dozen that reside in Texas.

In her view, she believes that expert plastic surgery is very male dominated. It’s because ultimately it puts you through 5 years of post medical school training and then a fellowship after that I can last for a year or two. If you are seeking to start a family as a woman, that can be difficult.

Jacob Gottlieb

Jacob Gottlieb is the CIO of Visium Asset Management, a hedge fund focused around healthcare. Gottlied has announced that his company will start “winding down”. The announcement was due to various charges of wrongdoing, including mismarking.

Mismarking occurs when a company, typically a trust fund company, wants to create an illusion of liquidity in their select securities or bonds. This is done to encourage that company’s investors to continue putting their money into the fund.

One notable downside of mismarking is that is causes inflation, typically by several thousands of dollars. In the most extreme cases, mismarking the securities in a given portfolio can lead to inflation by millions of dollars. Companies can also inflate management fees for investors, which means that the investors will lose money.

Jacob Gottlieb’s company no longer has any employees. Since Gottlieb has not been particularly accused of any wrongdoing, he wants to continue working as the CIO for the company until it officially closes. The former higher-ups of Visium have moved into different business entities to work in positions similar to the ones that they held at Visium.

The Future of Aesthetic Procedures from Dr. Mark McKenna

Posted on May 14, 2018

Dr. Mark McKenna, a doctor turned real estate investor, turned cosmetic surgeon, is innovating the field of minor cosmetic procedures. Coming out of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Mark McKenna was influenced by his father, a well-established general practitioner, to enroll in medical school. Having the mind of a savvy business owner, McKenna quickly realized the opportunities that investing in real estate could offer him. By saving up money while still enrolled in at Tulane Medical School, McKenna was able to build a quite successful real estate business. Raking in a hefty six-figure salary, the young entrepreneur had become what every parent hopes their child will grow up to be: a hardworking individual who brought his visions to life. However, in 2005, a lot of his success was washed away. One of the most devastating natural disasters to affect the United Sates, Hurricane Katrina, struck New Orleans and flooded millions of dollars worth of property. During this time, Dr. Mark McKenna capitalized off of his setbacks, and bought flooded property that he would renovate and sell to other investors.

Around the time the real estate market crashed, Dr. Mark McKenna would revert back to medicine and open his own practice located in Atlanta, Georgia. In November 2007, ShapeMed would open its doors offering aesthetics services, such as Botox, hormone therapy, and injectables. Opening around the time that the internet was gaining popularity, ShapeMed attracted more clients than competitors through ads and social media. This attraction allowed McKenna to sell the company to an interested buyer: Life Time Fitness. Essentially a business providing gym services, Life Time Fitness saw ShapeMed as the perfect opportunity to expand into the fields of lifestyle and beauty. After sticking with his business for approximately a year, Dr. Mark McKenna pulled out and settled down with his family for a period of time.

As of now, Dr. Mark McKenna is onto his next venture: OVME. OVME is a highly personalized practice offering cutting-edge aesthetic services. Services offered include, but are not limited to, Botox, derma fillers, microneedling, and weight management. Visit OVME’s website for all the details.

The procedures are also designed to be cost-effective.

For about 30 years Dr. Cameron Clokie. was taught dentistry at the university level. His last position doing so was at the University of Toronto where he was the Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His work has been presented both in Canada and internationally. Altogether he has 25 patents, in both the United States and internationally, many of which involve bone healing and regrowth.

It was in 1993 that Dr. Cameron Clokie started his research into bone regrowth. At the time he was at McGill University and when he transferred to the University of Toronto in 1998 he took his research team with him. His research was into developing bioimplants which would replace autogenous bone grafts. Regrowing the patient’s own jawbone looks better aesthetically and it doesn’t affect other parts of the body, such as having to remove bone from the patient’s shin to have it placed into their jaws.

One patient that Dr. Cameron Clokie had great success with was a 60-year-old man who had lost part of his jaw due to a benign tumor. Dr. Clokie was able to regrow the missing jaw part, which was 7cm long. The patient afterward said that he felt like his jawline looked like that of someone 20 years younger than he was.
